Every individual knows that a good number of humans actually suffer from food allergies these days. Whether that is because it is easier to diagnose or because we are becoming more intolerant of food now, nobody can be sure. However, despite that, few owners pay attention to their dogs and the content of the dog food that they are fed on a regular basis.
Dog allergies are more common in dogs than we think, especially protein allergies because the majority of the dog food available has a high content of protein and it can negatively affect our pets. The majority of reactions are hardly noticeable but there is always a chance that it can progress into something much worse later on in life.
Ingredients that are common in dog food can cause a reaction in any dog, and they do not have to be present from birth. Many dogs will develop dog food allergies later on in life. It may be chicken, beef, dairy, corn, wheat or another ingredient that triggers the allergy but your dog will suffer all the same. If your dog is allergies to the protein in dog food then it may be necessary to come up with a different diet for him or her.
The first step to identifying a dog allergy to dog food is to watch him or her closely when eating and note any slight changes in behaviour or reaction. If they remain for a period of a few days then you should consult your vet for a diagnosis of the allergy and follow that up with a change of dog food. This is completely necessary because it prevents discomfort and unease in the future!
